(Kaieteur News) – The Golden Jaguars continued their impressive start to the 2026/27 Concacaf Nations League on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over the Cayman Islands to make it two wins from two matches in League B.

Guyana’s Senior Men’s National team, which opened its campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Puerto Rico, produced another disciplined performance to claim maximum points and strengthen their position in Group A.

Guyana settled quickly and were rewarded for their positive start in the 15th minute when Liam Gordon broke the deadlock, giving the Golden Jaguars a 1-0 advantage.

The early goal provided Guyana with momentum, and they continued to threaten as they looked to extend their lead.

Their pressure was rewarded again in the 36th minute when Osaze De Rosario found the back of the net to double Guyana’s advantage, as Omari Glasgow proved both assists.

De Rosario’s strike was particularly significant after he scored the winning penalty in Guyana’s opening 1-0 victory against Puerto Rico, making him responsible for two of Guyana’s three goals across their opening two matches.

He also improved his international goal tally to 12 from 13 outings for Guyana.

With a two-goal cushion established before halftime, Guyana managed the remainder of the contest effectively, keeping the Cayman Islands off the score sheet to secure their second consecutive clean sheet and another three points.

The result leaves Guyana with a perfect six points from their opening two Group A matches.

The group also includes Puerto Rico and Dominica, with each team scheduled to play six group-stage matches during the 2026/27 campaign.

The Golden Jaguars’ victory also keeps them firmly in contention for the top spot in a competition that carries added importance this cycle.

The 2026/27 Nations League serves as the pathway to the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup, with the four League B group winners earning direct qualification for the tournament.

Guyana will next face Dominica on October 1, before meeting the same opponent again on October 4 as the group stage continues.

CH&PA rejects claims Pres. Ali personally acquired 182 acres at Onderneeming

0

– says land remains state-owned, Order No. 180 part of title registration process

(Kaieteur News) – The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), has rejected recent claims published by Kiskadee Watch that President Irfaan Ali personally purchased 182 acres of land at Plantation Onderneeming, describing the claims as “erroneous, grossly misleading, and without basis.”

The ministry’s statement comes in response to reports alleging that the head of state acquired the property. Housing officials said the claims are based on a fundamental misinterpretation of statutory procedures, specifically Order No. 180 of 2026, and the legal processes governing public land administration in Guyana.

According to the CH&PA, the lands in question remain state-owned properties held under Transport No. 130 of 1876. The authority stressed that President Ali has not personally bought, acquired or transferred any portion of the property to himself.

Order No. 180 of 2026 is the initial regulatory step required to bring the identified parcels under Guyana’s land registration system. The process is necessary to facilitate the eventual issuance of legal certificates of title to public beneficiaries.

“The president, as the minister responsible, is authorised to sign the order,” the CH&PA stated. “His execution of the order is therefore an exercise of his official statutory responsibility and must not be misrepresented as evidence that he personally purchased or acquired the lands.”

The official instrument covers two parcels of land, both earmarked for public housing and regularised community development.

Parcel 936, comprising approximately 26.85 acres, encompasses a regularised area currently occupied by informal settlers. Bringing the parcel into the land registration system is expected to advance the process of granting eligible residents official certificates of title and securing their tenure.

Parcel 1793, measuring approximately 155.13 acres and formerly designated as Block “CHPA 3,” has been designated for a new government housing scheme. Registration of the land is a prerequisite for issuing title deeds to individual land applicants and housing beneficiaries.

Together, the two parcels total approximately 182 acres and are designated for public housing initiatives.

The CH&PA said it was concerned that a routine legal and administrative process had been portrayed as a private transaction, when the process was designed to facilitate land ownership and secure tenure for Guyanese families.

“To suggest that the president personally purchased government lands when he was exercising his authority as the responsible Minister in furtherance of the land-registration process is reckless, misleading, and wholly unacceptable,” the statement read.

Kuldeep reels West Indies in, Gill and Kohli tons knock them out

0

(Cricinfo) – ODI cricket, especially the bilateral variety, is fighting for survival. One of the two competing sides has called off the domestic List A competition this year amid financial crisis. You wouldn’t have been able to guess that as Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill treated a festive full house in Thiruvananthapuram to centuries at the start of India’s home international season. A major part of the win, though, was set up by Kuldeep Yadav’s 4 for 40 on ODI comeback to restrict West Indies to 295 despite a 135-run opening stand between Justin Greaves and John Campbell.

On another day, Kuldeep would have been the main event, but there are few sights India loves more than their batters chasing down ODI targets around dinner time in the festival season. Especially when one of them is Kohli, who went past 15000 runs during the innings. While his 55th ODI hundred only extended his lead at the top, he did go level with Sachin Tendulkar on 60 List A hundreds. At 86 in all international cricket, is 100 hundreds too fantastical to think of?

And what of Gill, India’s captain who arguably gave up two hundreds in England with cramp or neck pain? He reached his 10th ODI hundred in just his 67th innings, the third-fastest to the mark. His overall count reached 22.

Not long ago, Greaves brought up his maiden hundred. For the first 20 overs or so, India looked like they had no answers for the fourth different opening combination West Indies had tried in the last five ODIs. The tall Greaves drove beautifully against the new ball even if he didn’t always get the length to do so. As India experimented with Reddy with the new ball, Greaves did get just the headstart you dream of as a batter, driving three full balls for four and shovelling a free hit for another, all in the second over. Since then, the run rate came down to under a run a ball only in the 29th over.

Missing Jasprit Bumrah, who is in Japan to represent India in the Asian Games, and Mohammed Siraj, who is perhaps still looking for his best rhythm, India needed a point of difference in the middle overs. Having warmed the bench for the entirety of India’s last ODI series and having looked off colour in a Test in Sri Lanka, Kuldeep roared back to take four of the first five wickets to fall, engineering a collapse of 4 for 22 from 176 for 1. His career tally read 198 wickets at 31.6 balls per wicket, the third-best among spinners who have gone past 175 wickets.

Brought on to bowl after even the debutant Naman Dhir had had a bowl, Kuldeep provided the first breakthrough. Campbell, who had taken down Ravindra Jadeja in the powerplay, was beaten in the air on the sweep, offering a low catch to short fine leg.

Kuldeep and Jadeja then turned the screws on Keacy Carty with Prasidh Krishna getting him out in the 31st over. This is the period when sides look to score quickly before two balls give way to one at the end of the 34th over and an extra fielder goes out at the end of the 40th. This is when Kuldeep put together one of his best recent spells. Shai Hope tried to force the pace, charged Kuldeep, was beaten in the flight, and sliced him to point.

Greaves, who had battled cramps all innings and helplessly watched the slowdown, tried to take risks against Kuldeep after bringing up his hundred. Having played two reverse sweeps for nothing, he tried the regulation one only to be out lbw. Kuldeep had to review the not-out call; it turned out he had bowled just the perfect ball: one that pitched just on, didn’t exactly turn back in but cut down on its initial angle to be just hitting the top of off. The next one turned and jumped at the 19-year-old Jewel Andrew, replacement for Sherfane Rutherford, away to attend to “a personal matter”.

At 198 for 5 in the 36th over, West Indies looked like they could fold quickly, but Amir Jangoo scored 58 off 43 to give the bowlers something to bowl at. It turned out he was giving India enough runs for two of them to score hundreds.

Gill was as efficient in his run-scoring as he has been in scoring 50 or more in seven out of nine innings this year. West Indies weren’t. Keemo Paul, substituting for Greaves, dropped him at short point on 11, the bowling was pedestrian and Gill batted in auto-pilot almost.

Someone not in auto-pilot was Kohli, who continues to explore more gears to his game. He started off with a six off Alzarri Joseph, brought up an ODI hundred with a six for the first time and, at this stage of his career, he hit his highest number of sixes in an ODI innings: nine of them. This was not a man facing the end of his career and looking to secure his place for the World Cup, this was a man finding new ways to dominate the opposition.

A clear marker was Kohli’s taking down of Joseph, who had extended his good run against Rohit Sharma with his wicket and wanted to do the same with Kohli. By the end of the night, Kohli had scored 53 off 26 from Joseph, hitting him for three sixes.

Gill could just accumulate in the middle overs, but he did once in a while come out of his bunker and match Kohli like he did with an inside-out six off Gudakesh Motie. However, it was hard to look away from Kohli as he just kept accelerating and brought up the target in just 41.4 overs.

We like minding other people’s business

0

(Kaieteur News) – One Sunday morning, a man drove into the neighbourhood in a brand-new SUV. Before he could park, three people had already seen it.  Before he could reach his front door, five people had already discussed it.

By nightfall, the neighbourhood had solved the mystery. “He got money.”

“No, he borrow.”

“From who?”

“Somebody say he wife family help he.”

“Dem boys say he does do something with government.”

By Monday morning, the man had become a millionaire, a fraudster, a government contractor and a suspected money launderer. All because he bought a vehicle. Dem Boys seh envy is one of the few things Guyanese could produce without importing the raw material. We does manufacture it locally.

A man could live in a little wooden house for twenty years and nobody does pay he much mind. But let he start building a concrete house with nice tiles and a fancy gate.

Suddenly everybody becomes a forensic auditor. In Guyana, suspicion does not require evidence. It only require somebody doing better than you.

A woman get promoted and people don’t say, “Congratulations.”

They say, “Who she know?”

A man business start doing well and people don’t say, “He working hard.”

They say, “He must have a connection.”

The same people who spend hours explaining why somebody doesn’t deserve success are usually the first people to congratulate them when the success becomes undeniable.

“Boy, I always know he had potential.”

Really?

Because last week you were explaining to everybody how he couldn’t spell his own name.

Dem Boys seh we gat a habit in Guyana that does keep we busy. You don’t have to accomplish anything yourself. Just monitor everybody else. Who buying land. Who building house. Who getting promotion. Who buying new car. Who going on vacation. Who wearing expensive clothes. Who eating at expensive restaurant.

By the time you finish investigating everybody else’s life, another year gone from your own. Some people so busy watching their neighbour climb the ladder that they don’t notice they ain’t moving.

Dem Boys seh envy is when another man’s blessing becomes your personal emergency. And jealousy is when you start praying that his Wi-Fi stop working.

Talk half. Leff half.

Lotto/Let’sBet T10: Eight teams locked in for ‘Super Saturday’ quarterfinals at Lusignan – News Room Guyana

0

Eight teams have locked in their spots for a blockbuster Super Saturday quarter-final slate at the Lusignan Ground on October 3, following an action-packed Round of 16 in the Georgetown and East Coast Demerara zone of the Lotto/Let’sBet One Guyana T10 Tapeball Blast.

With three zone champions already seeded into the national stage, local contenders battled across the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Lusignan grounds to keep their campaigns alive.

At stake is a spot in Sunday’s zonal finals at Enmore, with all eyes on the GYD $2 million national prize up for grabs at the Anna Regina National Stadium on October 11.

The day’s headline performance came at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground, where Avinash All-Stars pulled off an extraordinary run-chase against Stripling Warriors.

After Stripling Warriors posted 124 without loss,  powered by unbeaten half-centuries from Brandon Jaikaran (61*) and Navindra Persaud (51*), Avinash All-Stars mounted a jaw-dropping counter-attack.

Driven by a blistering Marlon Welcome-Goodman (61*),  Kadeem Alleyne (36) and Kevin Wickham (28*), they stormed to 128/1 in just eight overs to complete a stunning nine-wicket win.

Elsewhere at Lusignan, Kevin Sinclair took 2/25 to help restrict Team Upsetterz to 105/6 before Dejourn Charles (59*) and Treatlon Liverpool (32) anchored Team Corruption’s chase, reaching 106/2 in 8.2 overs.

Housing Warriors were the only side at the venue to defend a total, scoring 122/4 behind Sachin Singh’s 55* and Hiradeo Jailall’s 39, before restricting Dream 11 All-Stars to 77/7 for a 45-run victory.

Better Hope took the final spot from the venue, surviving a low-scoring thriller to chase down VP XI’s 72 in eight overs with four wickets in hand, led by Azad Mohamed’s 30.

SVC/AJM CC made light work of their 101-run target, cruising to a nine-wicket win in 4.2 overs thanks to Jonte Thomas (51*)

At the DCC ground, clinical bowling and blistering run chases were the order of the day.

Titans Rams routed Phantom XI for 40 in 10 overs—courtesy of stingy spells from Shacin Singh (2/2), Derwin Christian (2/5), and Clinton Pestano (2/8)—before Pernell London (31*) knocked off the runs in just 2.5 overs.

Pure Entertainment were equally emphatic, skittling Intruders for 63 through Mark Cumberbatch (4/20) and Travis Johnson (3/11), before Raphel Frank’s whirlwind 44 saw them home in 3.4 overs.

SVC/AJM CC made light work of their 101-run target, cruising to a nine-wicket win in 4.2 overs thanks to Jonte Thomas (51*) and Quentin Sampson (30*).

Meanwhile, Diamond Gunners produced a high-octane chase against FC ER Gladiators, overhauling Gladiators’ 96/8 (Jaffar Ali 27, Alvin Mohabir 25) by blasting 102/2 in six overs behind firepower from Josiah Lim (36), Ricardo David (34), and Seon Allen (20*).

Quarter-final action kicks off at Lusignan on Saturday at 9.30am local time when Titans Rams face Pure Entertainment, followed by Diamond Gunners taking on SVC/AJM CC at 11.30am.

The afternoon double-header features Team Corruption against Better Hope at 1.30pm, before Avinash All-Stars clash with Housing Warriors at 3.30pm for a place in Sunday’s zonal finals at Enmore.

More men coming forward to speak about workplace harassment- Dr Persaud – News Room Guyana

0

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud says more men are now coming forward to speak about harassment in the workplace.

This development, she believes, reflects growing confidence in systems designed to address such complaints.

Speaking at a recent event, Dr Persaud said extensive training has been conducted to prevent sexual exploitation and harassment in the workplace, while noting that harassment remains an issue affecting workers.

“Because it happens and I can tell you when I go to various places of work people will come quietly and tell me and what I am seeing now more men are coming forward to speak of harassment,” she said.

Harassment is unwelcomed conduct that demeans, humiliates, or offends a person, while workplace harassment specifically applies that unwanted behavior to a professional setting.

The US Department Labour describe harassment as a form of employment discrimination. It says offensive conduct may include, but is not limited to, offensive jokes, slurs, name calling, physical assaults or threats, intimidation and mockery.

Dr Persaud said the willingness of more men to speak about their experiences is encouraging because it suggests workers are becoming more confident that their concerns will be heard and addressed.

Her comments come against the backdrop of international data showing that workplace violence and harassment affects both men and women.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), globally, 17.9 per cent of employed men and women reported experiencing psychological violence and harassment during their working lives, while 8.5 per cent experienced physical violence and harassment, with more men than women reporting the latter.

The ILO also reported that 6.3 per cent of respondents had experienced sexual violence and harassment, with women particularly exposed.

Dr Persaud said one of the major challenges is ensuring that workers feel safe enough to make complaints without fearing repercussions.

She identified concerns over further victimisation, confidentiality, career advancement and how complainants may be viewed by colleagues as among the questions that must be addressed.

“The fear is always ‘Will I be further victimised?’ And bigger fear, ‘Would my issue be kept confidential? Will it impact on my upward mobility, will it impact about how i am perceived by the rest of my team members and will it impact on me as a person in a professional environment?’

“These are the type of hard questions that we have to answer today,” Dr Persaud said.

According to Dr Persaud, addressing those concerns requires the development of workplace systems that are gender-neutral, equitable and supportive of empowerment.

She acknowledged that changing workplace systems and culture will not happen overnight, describing the process as one involving several changes taking place at the same time.

“It is not pretty, easy and anything that we can say will happen immediately. It is reimaging and replacing and reinforcing all happening simultaneously,” Dr Persaud said.

On Friday, Wintz told Kaieteur News that works had commenced almost immediately on her new home and construction is almost complete. The new building is a three -bedroom concrete structure.

“Having a new home, I feel grateful, because I wouldn’t be able to rebuild so fast. Probably I’d try, but doing it so quickly, I know that I couldn’t get it done so fast. It would take me a little time. I’m grateful for what I have here now. I feel so relieved, because I will be more comfortable,” Wintz relayed.

When completed, this would be Wintz third home. April’s incident would mark the second instance of her losing her home to fire. The first such incident occurred nearly 20 years ago, she told Kaieteur News in a previous interview.

Support for Guyana against Venezuela’s renewed threats

0

Dear Editor,

I commend President Irfaan Ali for putting forward Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett as Guyana’s candidate for UN Secretary-General. Her experience as Foreign Minister, Permanent Representative and a leader during Guyana’s Security Council term makes this a serious candidacy. CARICOM’s endorsement confirms that it is a glorious opportunity for the wider Caribbean as well as Guyana.

We must also support President Ali’s clear defence of Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Delcy Rodríguez’s contemptuous display of a map claiming Essequibo, followed by her renewed call at the UN for bilateral negotiations, must not distract from the case now before the International Court of Justice. I urge Caribbean governments, the United States and the wider international community to firmly, and unequivocally, reject attempts to give any credence to that claim and to support a peaceful resolution through the Court.

I will continue urging President Donald Trump and his Cabinet, including the Secretary of State Marco Rubio, members of the U.S. Congress, including the Congressional Black Caucus, the UN and all other countries, to give Guyana’s security and the rule of law their sustained attention. President Ali’s own engagement with U.S. lawmakers is a welcome part of that effort.

As a Community Leader, District Leader emeritus, Judicial Delegate, and Guyanese-American, I will be lobbying and meeting with Congress members most expeditiously on this national, and international issue. This is not a partisan political issue, but a supervening, national emergency. The support of everyone, both in Guyana and in the diaspora, regardless of party affiliation, creed or race, is paramount. My support on these national interests does not silence my criticism of shortcomings in public services, inclusion or accountability, where justified, and necessary. A citizen can give credit where it is earned and demand better where it is needed. Guyana is strongest when we bring that same resolve to both.

Guyana’s nationalism, a political and cultural ideology that places supreme loyalty, devotion, and allegiance to one’s nation-state above other individual or group interests, must take precedence at this juncture in our collective Guyanese history! Stand up for Guyana!

Regards,

Albert Baldeo

Mohamed exposes ‘national atrocity’ at Moruca Hostel

0

(Kaieteur News) – Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed, accompanied by Members of Parliament Tabitha Sarabo-Halley and Deon Lacruz, conducted an unscheduled walk-through of the Moruca Amerindian Hostel, highlighting what the delegation said was the deplorable living conditions for hinterland residents.

Video footage published on Team Mohamed’s official social media platforms showed the delegation touring the facility, where they pointed to non-functioning utilities, inadequate lighting, unsanitary sewage facilities, broken amenities and poor conditions in the sleeping quarters.

Conditions in the Moruca Hostel

During the inspection, Mohamed described the state of the facility as a “national atrocity” and questioned the level of attention being given to the hostel.

“We are presently at the Moruca Amerindian Hostel. It’s quite important to see the condition our Indigenous brothers and sisters have to endure when they come to this hostel,” Mohamed said.

He also criticised Minister of Amerindian Affairs Sarah Browne-Shadeek, who is from Moruca, over the condition of the facility.

“And what is more surprising is that the Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Sarah Browne, is from Moruca. While she’s living in her mansions… this is the condition of the hostel,” he said.

Kaieteur News understands, however, that responsibility for the upkeep of the facility falls under the Regional Democratic Council, which comes under the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, headed by Minister Priya Manickchand.

The delegation found that of two black water tanks at the hostel, only one was operational. The building was also without electricity, while sleeping quarters were reportedly unclean, with cobwebs and broken mattresses. A strong odour was also reported from the sewage system.

Sarabo-Halley said the facility is also used to accommodate schoolchildren when regional dormitories are full.

“Look at this condition. This is ridiculous. I’m appalled,” she said. “There’s a stench here. Nobody should have to live here.”

The MP questioned why residents should have to endure such conditions, while calling on the authorities to address the situation.

The delegation also raised concerns about the treatment of workers at the facility.

During the visit, Mohamed spoke with a private security guard who claimed that he had not been paid for more than two months.

The guard reportedly works eight-hour shifts without days off and earns approximately $3,000 per day.

“When our people in the diaspora boast about President Ali’s leadership and the world’s fastest-growing economy, this is the reality where we have our Indigenous brothers providing security for government buildings, working for $400 US dollars a month every single day,” Mohamed said.

The visit comes against the backdrop of ongoing concerns about the condition and capacity of Guyana’s Amerindian hostel facilities. The government has announced plans for a new $500 million Amerindian Hostel, with construction expected to commence shortly.

Mohamed said his team will provide immediate assistance to the facility, including new beds and mattresses.

Meanwhile, Sarabo-Halley and Lacruz called for funding to be allocated for a complete overhaul of the Moruca facility in the upcoming fiscal year. They also called on Minister Browne to visit the hostel and see the conditions for herself.

The opposition delegation also questioned whether senior government officials and representatives from the region are adequately addressing the concerns affecting residents in Moruca.
