A social media personality of Fyrish, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), was arrested outside of Parliament Building in Georgetown at about 18:00h on Tuesday, following allegations that he discussed making and throwing Channa bombs during Monday’s protest called by We Invest in Nationhood (WIN).
The social media personality was captured in a live broadcast discussing the preparation of the devices outside of the court where United States (US) sanctioned and indicted Opposition Leader and WIN leader Azruddin Mohamed had appeared earlier that day.
Meanwhile, police are searching for another social media personality, residing in East Canje, Berbice, who allegedly made similar statements about preparing and throwing Channa bombs at Freedom House, the headquarters of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).
Monday’s protest outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts descended into chaos after protesters breached police barricades, prompting police to discharge tear gas and pellets to disperse the crowd.

As the crowd dispersed, several protesters ran in the direction of Stabroek Market and moments later, a small fire was seen at the front of the market, adding to the tension in the area.
A livestream video on social media from outside the courthouse captured individuals discussing how to make Channa bombs.
Ahead of the demonstration, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) had warned against violence, destruction of property, intimidation and other unlawful activities, emphasising that the constitutional right to peaceful protest did not extend to conduct that endangered public safety.
Police also cautioned that persons engaging in unlawful activities could face investigation and prosecution where sufficient evidence existed.
