Pushing… the legal envelope

Led by Sanction Man’s ambitious Sissie, who could be working clandestinely to ensure she moves up from being Political Director of WIN to its leader after he’s extradited, some WIN Scrape supporters have discovered a revolutionary legal argument: demand respect for their leader’s innocence by giving the Police fresh offences to investigate!! In Georgetown, after Sanction Man was brought to the Magistrate Court on the application of the Prosecutor that bail on his extradition case be revoked in light of his new escapade of stalking a witness – all hell broke loose!!
The supporters’ demand for Sanction Man’s release acquired the persuasive accompaniment of breached barricades, bottles hurled at Police and burning rubbish. The Police were forced to fire pellets at the mob to prevent them from being run over and stomped into the Big Market tarmac!! Apparently, when legal submissions fail to produce the desired result, counsel should consider a matchbox!!
The irony could roast a breadfruit!! Mohamed remains on remand on a cybercrime charge arising from an alleged arrangement involving payment to a Policeman for surveillance footage!! Held at the Lusignan Prison to prevent him from committing more legal breaches – which he seems compelled to do! – your Eyewitness was pleased that his Sissie revealed that the “medical crisis” she’d complained of him suffering at Lusignan was just a “headache”!! He himself complained as he walked into the Magistrate Court of his cell being really “hot” – evidently the warden violated his constitutional right to an air conditioner and had only adjusted his fan at his request!!
Now, his (very well paid!) lawyers dispute the allegations and the legal basis of the charge and have made submissions on those questions before a court – where they belong!! To your jaded Eyewitness, it seems his more combustible supporters prefer submitting their arguments through smoke signals!! After all, they were burning the debris in full view of the court!! Now, “Respect our rights!” is a perfectly legitimate demand – but “While you are at it, excuse this little fire and storming Police barricades” demands considerably more explanation!!
Big Market vendors, shoppers, and commuters, meanwhile, must accommodate this grand constitutional seminar!! Their business, safety, and journeys home apparently rank below the urgent need to demonstrate that one particular citizen should be released immediately – never mind it’s all of his doing!! Now, like everybody else, Sanction Man is entitled to the presumption of innocence, and his supporters are entitled to PEACEFUL protest!! Neither entitlement comes with complimentary permission to terrorise the surroundings!!
But perhaps we misunderstand Sissie’s strategy – she may be trying to secure his release – or maybe arranging enough arrests to keep him company??
In Mudland, even solidarity comes with a lil extra twist!!

…democracy in US
Now your Eyewitness knows the US midterm elections (for some of the seats in the House and Senate between presidential elections) might interest us in Mudland because so many of our “family” voted yesterday – and also it may affect America’s relations with us!! Now in general, US foreign policy’s remarkably consistent across their political rivalries – but you never know, do you??
Democrats need a net gain of four seats to control the Senate – while defending their existing seats – and the polls suggest they’ve got a credible chance with victory far from certain!! For Guyana, your Eyewitness thinks the effect’s more likely gonna be on HOW Washington pursues its interests than on those interests themselves!! A Democratic Senate MIGHT press harder for legal justification, consultation and safeguards around action involving Venezuela – but wouldn’t automatically undo US–Guyana security cooperation!!
The distinction is between RESTRAINING presidential decisions and DIRECTING foreign policy – in winning the Senate, the Dems are gonna gain tools for the former but not achieve the latter!!

…for justice
The authorities have moved with alacrity to investigate the death of that young man in Police custody over in Vreed-en-Hoop. Lord knows the functioning of the force demands strict scrutiny and the Minister’s early firm statement was exemplary!!
