The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has hailed the impact of the recently concluded Cricket West Indies (CWI) territorial batting camp, which wrapped up at the National Stadium on October 9.
Led by CWI batting consultant Bob Carter, the specialised three-day clinic brought together ten top local batters and over a dozen coaches for an intensive program focused on refining technical fundamentals, shot execution, and adaptability against pace and spin.
GCB President Bissoondyal Singh commended the joint initiative, emphasising that targeted technical camps are central to building a sustainable, structured development pipeline across Guyana and the wider region.
Singh highlighted the need to align coaching education, technical training, and talent identification with modern cricketing standards, noting that strengthening local infrastructure directly strengthens the West Indies senior setup.
He added that empowering regional players and coaches remains the bedrock for restoring international competitiveness.
Echoing these sentiments, GCB Cricket Operations Manager Anthony D’Andrade pointed out the dual benefit of the exercise, which served as both a technical tune-up for batters and a masterclass for grassroots coaches.
With over 12 coaches attending from franchise, county, and association levels—including representatives from Linden, Essequibo, and Berbice—the camp provided rare exposure to specialised, single-discipline session planning.
D’Andrade observed that, unlike conventional all-round coaching modules covering batting, bowling, and fielding simultaneously, this focused format gave local coaches valuable insights into structuring targeted batting drills they can replicate across their zones.
The GCB reiterated its commitment to collaborating with CWI and key stakeholders to maintain a progressive development pathway for local talent, while extending formal appreciation to CWI High Performance Manager Dwain Gill for his coordination and support in executing the camp.
