New TVET platform launched to strengthen technical education delivery

0

Guyana’s education sector continues to advance towards ensuring universal access to quality education, with the launch of a digital portal aimed at strengthening institutional management, improving efficiency and enhancing the quality of training.

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Education Management Information System (EMIS) platform is a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the World Bank and other key stakeholders.

The platform aligns with the government’s broader drive to digitise public services, streamline processes and improve decision-making through accurate, reliable data.

The EMIS platform will provide an integrated system to monitor the entire student journey, from application and enrollment to training and the issuance of certificates.

It will also allow the ministry to track programme performance, assess equipment and facility needs, identify gaps in service delivery and make informed decisions to improve the quality of technical and vocational training.

At the launch ceremony, Minister of Education Sonia Parag stressed that the platform must be actively managed to ensure it delivers the intended results.

“This must be a system that you are constantly ensuring that it is working, that it is giving you the results that you are looking for,” the education minister told the educators present.

She noted that effective data use will support evidence-based policies and strengthen quality assurance across the TVET sector, ensuring students receive the training and certification needed to contribute meaningfully to the workforce and their communities.

Deputy Chief Education Officer (Technical), Dr Ritesh Tularam, highlighted the importance of the EMIS in improving the coordination and management of technical and vocational education.

Dr Tularam noted that the private sector will be able to access the portal to upload available vacancies, giving trainees direct access to gainful employment.

The platform is expected to support more efficient operations by consolidating information and providing greater oversight of the sector’s programmes and institutions.

The launch comes as the government continues to expand TVET opportunities nationwide.

The EMIS system will improve data management and record-keeping; it will be centralised and will provide information on the number of trainees and the programmes being offered, among others.

The initiative is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring every student has access to quality education and practical skills that can support lifelong learning, employment and national development. [DPI]

See full statement from the Guyana Prison Service:

The Guyana Prison Service considers it necessary to place on record the documented prison regime of remanded prisoner Azzruddin Mohamed for Saturday, October 31, 2026, and Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Prison records show that on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Mr. Mohamed was briefed on activities related to the admission process. He was also briefed on prison rules and general expectations.

During the day, he received visits from his family members and his attorneys. Mr. Mohamed was permitted to make a telephone call to a family member, lasting approximately 16 minutes.

Prison records show that on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Mr. Mohamed:
* was unlocked at 06:00 hrs for his morning hygiene;
* received breakfast delivered by a relative at 06:40 hrs;
* attended a welfare counselling session lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes;
* was permitted three telephone calls to family members, lasting approximately 29 minutes in total;
* received a two-hour visit from one of his attorneys;
* received lunch delivered by a relative during that visit;
* was permitted afternoon hygiene at 15:35 hrs;
* was seen by a medical officer at 15:55 hrs and provided with cough medication;
* was provided with writing and reading materials; and

* was visited at 19:00 hrs by Director of Prisons Nicklon Elliot, during which Mr. Mohamed indicated that he had no complaints.

Security checks were conducted periodically throughout the night.

The official prison record establishes that Mr. Mohamed spent approximately 9 hours and 20 minutes outside of his holding area on November 1, 2026.

Accordingly, any assertion that Mr. Mohamed was confined to his holding area for “23 hours and 50 minutes” on that day is inconsistent with the documented prison record.

The Guyana Prison Service will continue to ensure that Mr. Mohamed, like every person in its custody, is treated in accordance with the law, established prison procedures and applicable standards, while maintaining the security and good order of the institution.
