South American Games: Guyana’s trio target archery glory in Rosario – News Room Guyana

Sep 25, 2026 | 2 min read |By admin@newsource.gy

Guyana’s top archers have taken to the range in Argentina as the country targets international progress at the ongoing  XIII South American Games.

Devin Persaud Permaul, Mehandra Chatargum, and Trevaughn Waldron make up the three-man squad taking on the region’s elite in Rosario, guided by national coach Ryan McKinnon.

The four-day archery competition forms part of a sprawling multi-sport programme staged across Santa Fe, Rosario, and Rafaela, featuring 60 disciplines and athletes from across the continent.

The archers are part of a 44-member Team Guyana contingent organised by the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), with athletes also competing in athletics, boxing, esports, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, and tennis.

Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon hailed the team’s inclusion as a key milestone in their high-performance pathway.

“It is always a proud moment to see Guyanese archers take their place on an international field representing our country,” Persaud-McKinnon said. “Santa Fe provides another valuable opportunity for our athletes to test themselves, gain experience, and continue building their international careers.

“Every international competition adds another chapter to an athlete’s development. Our responsibility as a federation is to ensure that these opportunities translate into experience, knowledge, and a stronger pathway for the athletes who will follow.”

The GOA has earmarked the Games as a primary building block toward long-term targets, including the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The campaign comes amidst a landmark year for the domestic sport. Archery Guyana is set to host international competition on home soil next month, welcoming the region for the inaugural Caribbean Archery Championships and 8th Caribbean Development Championships at the Guyana National Stadium.
