Grieving mother calls for justice following son’s fatal stabbing

Nov 2, 2026 | 3 min read

The mother of 36-year-old Nicholas Boyce, who was allegedly stabbed to death at La Retraite, West Bank Demerara, on Friday night, is pleading for justice as police continue their investigation into the incident.

Salome Boyce, who lives in Corriverton, Berbice told the News Room that her son had migrated from the area about three years ago and was employed with Sheriff Security in Georgetown.

According to Salome, Nicholas had just completed his shift and was heading home when the incident occurred. After learning of his death, she travelled to La Retraite, where she saw the scene and confirmed that her son had sustained injuries to his neck and other parts of his body.

She said Nicholas and his 31-year-old common-law wife had been in a relationship for approximately nine months. However, she claimed that her son had never complained to her about any problems in the relationship.

“He had a problem with her, she could call me and tell me, I would’ve collected my son, than killing he. It hurt me very much. He is the first child out of 10 I got to bury,” the grieving mother said.

The man’s family claims that it the wife’s brother who reportedly fatally stabbed Nicholas.

“I am begging for justice,” Salome said, describing Nicholas as a quiet and helpful person.

Meanwhile, police have reported that the incident occurred between 21:00 hrs and 22:30 hours on Friday, October 30, at a shop situated in front of Boyce’s home along the La Retraite Public Road.

Salome Boyce, who lives in Corriverton, Berbice told the News Room that her son had migrated from the area about three years ago and was employed with Sheriff Security in Georgetown.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Boyce was at the shop, where his wife was attending to customers, when an argument reportedly broke out between them.

Police said Boyce allegedly assaulted the woman during the dispute, prompting three male customers to intervene. He reportedly pulled a knife from his pocket, after which the men began pushing him away.

When police ranks arrived at the scene, Boyce was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with what appeared to be a stab wound to the left side of his neck.

He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His wife was also taken to the hospital for medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition.

A knife was recovered a short distance from where Boyce’s body was found and has been lodged as part of the investigation.

Police subsequently arrested a 38-year-old man of La Retraite Backdam, West Bank Demerara, who was reportedly present at the scene. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Investigators also observed CCTV cameras in the area, which are expected to be reviewed as part of the ongoing probe.
