Oct 5, 2026 | 3 min read

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Sep 30 (Earth & Ink) – Earth & Ink, Guyana’s emerging digital media and information platform focused on biodiversity, the environment and sustainable development, has joined the Global Biodiversity Alliance (GBA), an initiative led by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali that is bringing together partners around global biodiversity action and nature-positive development.

Founded by Joanna Simmons and Haimwant Persaud, Earth & Ink was officially launched on 30 September 2026 at Herdmanston Lodge, Georgetown, bringing together representatives from Government, the private sector, academia, development organisations and Guyana’s creative community.

The platform is designed to provide credible news, analysis and public information on forests, biodiversity, climate resilience, land use, water systems and sustainable development. It combines environmental data and expert analysis with storytelling, visualisation and accessible public information.

The launch also highlighted the important connection between culture and the environment, recognising that Guyana’s forests, rivers, wildlife, landscapes and traditional knowledge form an important part of the country’s cultural identity.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. welcomed Earth & Ink’s participation in the GBA, noting the role of culture and creativity in communicating Guyana’s environmental story.

“Our environment is an essential part of our culture and identity, and our artists, creators, storytellers and young people have an important role to play in helping Guyana and the world understand and appreciate the value of our natural heritage.”

Senior Director of Climate Change Pradeepa Bholanath highlighted Guyana’s progress in linking environmental protection with sustainable development and its growing international leadership on climate and biodiversity.

“Guyana has shown that protecting our natural heritage and pursuing development can go hand in hand. Through LCDS 2030, our forest conservation efforts, carbon markets, community initiatives and the Global Biodiversity Alliance, Guyana has demonstrated how the value of nature can be recognised while creating opportunities for our people and contributing to global climate and biodiversity goals.”

Bholanath welcomed Earth & Ink’s membership in the GBA, noting that credible information and effective storytelling are increasingly important as Guyana shares its experience and achievements with national, regional and international audiences.

Earth & Ink’s core objectives include strengthening public access to environmental information, connecting community voices with international stakeholders and highlighting Guyana’s role in the Global Biodiversity Alliance.

The platform’s membership in the President Ali-led GBA adds a new communications and creative dimension to the Alliance, bringing together environment, culture, science, storytelling and sustainable development in support of Guyana’s growing biodiversity leadership.
