AGM featured as “the Next Generation of Guyanese Gold Mining” in Int’l B2B magazine
…company revenue reached US$334M by mid-2026
(Kaieteur News) – Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd., a Chinese state-owned mining giant operating in Guyana through its subsidiary AGM Inc., has been featured in Inside Mining as “The Next Generation of Guyanese Gold Mining.”
Only recently, Zijin reported that revenue for the first half of 2026 from its Guyana project reached US$334 million.
The mining giant’s foothold in Guyana’s mining landscape was solidified in August 2020 when it acquired the Aurora Gold Mine, the country’s largest gold mining operation, from Canadian-owned Guyana Goldfields Inc. for US$238 million.
The mine is located in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and holds estimated reserves of close to 184 tonnes of gold, or approximately six million ounces of gold.
Commenting on the feature, AGM Inc. said, “This feature reflects something larger than the evolution of a single mine. It captures how responsible resource development, disciplined investment and national development can converge within one operating model.”
Inside Mining is an agency based in the United Kingdom (UK) that produces business-to-business publications covering innovations, organisations and ideas shaping the global market.
AGM outlined that the gold mine is advancing through a major transition towards underground mining while integrating renewable energy, strengthening environmental and social performance, developing Guyanese talent, expanding opportunities for local businesses and building the infrastructure required for long-term operational resilience.
AGM said that each element serves a common objective, to convert Guyana’s mineral endowment into enduring economic and social value.
“Our measure of progress therefore extends beyond ounces produced. We look equally at the capability transferred to our workforce, opportunities created across the domestic supply chain, environmental performance achieved, communities supported and institutional partnerships strengthened. These outcomes define the quality of growth as much as production itself,” AGM noted.
Further, the company explained that as Guyana enters a new phase of economic development, its responsibility is clear. AGM stressed that it is committed to operating to high standards, investing with a long-term horizon and ensuring the value generated from mining extends beyond the mine.
“We thank Inside Mining for documenting this chapter of our journey, and our employees, contractors, communities, government agencies and partners whose work continues to shape the next generation of Guyanese gold mining,” it added.
Moreover, this publication recently reported that AGM Inc., Zijin’s figure for gold production at the Aurora Gold Mine in the first half of 2026 is slightly higher than the gold declaration figure published by the Ministry of Finance in its mid-year report.
Zijin reported that gold production at the Aurora Gold Mine for the first half of the year was 2.2 tonnes, equivalent to 70,731 troy ounces. Meanwhile, government reported that AGM Inc., Guyana’s lone large-scale gold producer declarations fell from 71,316 troy ounces in the first half of 2025 to 70,105 troy ounces in the same period of 2026.
The difference of 626 troy ounces between Zijin’s reported gold production figure and the government’s gold declaration figure is valued at approximately US$2.57 million, based on a gold price of US$4,100 per troy ounce.
During the reporting period, Zijin said geological exploration activities completed 11,000 metres of drilling at the Aurora Gold Mines. It further disclosed that production exploration activities at the Guyana project is focused on open-pit mining, processing and refining operations and continued efforts to strengthen grade control and ore blending management with 10,000 metres of in-pit drilling completed.
The company had five underground drilling rigs operating during the reporting period.
Moreover¸ as it relates to project operation and production Zijin stated, “The mine reduced costs and improved recovery rate through measures such as pit backfilling, underground waste-rock backfilling, optimisation of blasting materials, gravity separation and carbon fines recovery.”
In April, Zijin published its 2025 Annual Report on its global operation which revealed that its operating income from the Aurora Gold Mine last year was 3.68651 RMB billion (US$ 549.1 million). That report also stated that the Guyana mine produced approximately 4.5 tonnes of gold, representing an 11% increase from 4.1 tonnes in 2024.
