Over 100 drivers register as Berbice Invasion drag race meet targets record grid – News Room Guyana

Oct 9, 2026 | 2 min read

More than 100 drivers have registered for Sunday’s Berbice Invasion Drag Race Meet, with organisers expecting the final grid to approach 120 competitors at the Rose Hall Canje Airstrip.

Hosted by the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC), the event marks a major return to the region, with a late surge of online entries pushing competitor numbers well past initial projections.

A GMR&SC spokesman confirmed that setup teams have been on site preparing the venue and calibrating timing systems ahead of the spectacle on October 11.

“We are elated to see the large support for this Berbice event from competitors,” the spokesman said. “The fan support already in the ancient county is tremendous. People are stopping us on the roads and in shops to ask about tickets, and it’s really heartening to see the love that Berbice has for us.”

Racing is scheduled to commence at 10:00 local time, featuring a full day of head-to-head action across various high-performance and modified vehicle classes.

To manage the anticipated crowd, organisers have arranged four designated parking zones, with shuttle buses transporting fans directly to and from the venue gates.

Major sponsors include ENet, Tropical Shipping, Castrol, GuyOil, and KFC.

GMR&SC officials have also confirmed strict security protocols will be enforced, including prohibitions on outside food and drinks, unauthorised vending, and reckless driving near the circuit perimeter.
