ENet Backs Team Guyana Robotics at FIRST Global Challenge 2026 in South Korea – News Room Guyana

Oct 2, 2026 | 2 min read

A team of young Guyanese innovators is preparing to take their skills, creativity, and passion for technology to the international stage, as Team Guyana Robotics heads to South Korea for the FIRST Global Challenge 2026.

ENet has come on board as a sponsor for the team’s participation this year, supporting their journey as they join students from more than 190 countries in designing, building and programming robots to compete in a challenge centred on one of the world’s most pressing global issues.

This year’s challenge focuses on wildfire prevention, mitigation and recovery. Students are tasked with exploring how engineering and technology can help reduce the risk and impact of wildfires, protect communities and strengthen environmental resilience.

For Team Guyana, the competition represents an opportunity to put Guyanese STEM talent alongside some of the brightest young minds from around the world. Since making its debut in 2017, the team has continued to build Guyana’s presence within the international robotics community, most notably earning the Albert Einstein Gold Medal for Excellence in 2019.

The sponsorship was formally handed over by Tandi Rampersaud, Business Development Coordinator – Special Projects at ENet, who highlighted the company’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Guyanese.

“We have so much talent right here in Guyana, and at ENet, we’re happy to back that talent and help ensure our young people have the opportunity to compete globally. These students have already done the hard work to earn their place on a global stage, and for us, supporting them is an investment in the next generation of Guyanese innovators.”

Behind Team Guyana’s journey is a broader effort by STEMGuyana to ensure students have access to the tools, mentorship and opportunities needed to build careers in technology and engineering.

According to Dr. Karen Abrams, Co-founder of STEMGuyana, the role of the organization goes far beyond preparing a team for one competition.

“Our role is to ensure these young engineers are prepared for the 21st-century Guyanese economy. We give our students access to equipment, opportunity, and community which also includes access to mentors, locally and globally, who help shape their future career choices. ENet’s donation to Team Guyana Robotics directly fuels that work, and we’re grateful for their partnership.”

As Team Guyana departs this weekend for South Korea, ENet wishes the team every success as they represent Guyana at the FIRST Global Challenge 2026.
