Oct 1, 2026 | 2 min read

(Kaieteur News) – As the Suriname Major Crime Department joins the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to probe the disappearance of two men their mothers are clinging to the hope that they will be found alive and safe.

The Surinamese men, 28-year-old Van Dalen Lorenzo and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo were last seen on 28th August- one month ago.

According to a missing person’s report issued by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the two were last seen on 28th August exiting a white Toyota Vitz in Clarasluis (Clara Sluice), Nickerie, Suriname, before boarding a boat bound for Guyana.

Kaieteur News later received initial information that they had arrived in Guyana safely and entered a black station-wagon-type taxi. Since then, the men have not been seen or heard from.

“I want to hear good news” Angela, the mother of missing Derryl Danillo told Kaieteur News on Wednesday following recent developments in the investigation.

“My heart is paining, I can’t sleep, Nothing I can’t do, I hope it is possible that I hear something about my son” she said tearfully.

Relatives related that Derryl Danillo and Van Dalen Lorenzo fondly known as Ziggy are high school friends.

According to Angela, her son Derryl is an entrepreneur and the only thing he told her on the day he went missing with Van Dalen Lorenzo is that they were heading to Nickerie and then Guyana.

“I don’t know if he travelled to Guyana before this occasion. This is the first time I know of”, the worried woman added.

On Tuesday Kaieteur News learnt that police had arrested the wife and brother of US-sanctioned Guyanese businessman Mark Cromwell in connection with their disappearance.

Derryl Danillo and Van Dalen Lorenzo were reportedly last seen in a car registered to the woman.

Angela said she does not know if her son might be acquainted with the persons detained and disclosed that Derryl Danillo didn’t say what the purpose for his trip to Guyana was before leaving.

Investigations are ongoing.
