Teen admits manslaughter in 2025 fatal stabbing of businessman
A teenager who admitted fatally stabbing Kyle Anthony Solomon during a confrontation on February 5, 2025, will be sentenced on November 27 at the High Court in Demerara.
The accused, who was 16 at the time of the offence and is not being identified because he was a minor, pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter after being indicted for murder.
He appeared before Justice Zamilla Ally-Seepaul. The prosecution is represented by Padma Dubraj and Rodley Mathoo, while attorney-at-law Melvin Duke represents the accused.
According to the facts presented to the court, the confrontation occurred at about 4:00 a.m. Solomon, a businessman and city councillor, accused the teenager of stealing from him, and the two became involved in a fight. Solomon held a piece of wood, while the teenager was armed with a knife.
During the altercation, the teenager stabbed Solomon multiple times until he fell. He then fled with the knife still in his hand. Solomon was later pronounced dead.
The teenager was arrested that same day at the Mackenzie Police Station in Linden and subsequently escorted to the East La Penitence Police Station in Georgetown.
In his account to investigators, the accused said he had been fetching water when Solomon emerged from some bushes, complained that his property had been broken into and began striking him with a piece of wood.
“I de try fu block de lash we had ah fight and I bore he couple time with a lil black handle knife I had on me, me didn’t go fu do dat,” he told investigators.
The medical findings documented 11 incised wounds to Solomon’s body. Two penetrated the chest cavity, perforating his heart and lung.
