Security officer stabbed to death following altercation at La Retraite

Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating the alleged murder of a 38-year-old security officer following a stabbing incident at La Retraite Public Road, West Bank Demerara, on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Nicolas Boyce of La Retraite. The incident reportedly occurred between 21:00 hrs and 22:30 hrs.

According to preliminary investigations, Boyce was at a shop located in front of his home, where his 31-year-old common-law wife was attending to customers, when an argument reportedly erupted between the two.

During the altercation, Boyce allegedly assaulted his wife, prompting three male customers to intervene.

Police said Boyce reportedly pulled a knife from his pocket, after which the men began pushing him away.

When police ranks arrived at the scene, Boyce was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with what appeared to be a stab wound to the left side of his neck.

He was subsequently taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His wife was also taken to the hospital for medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition.

A knife was recovered a short distance from where Boyce’s body was found and has been lodged as part of the investigation.

Following the incident, a 38-year-old man of La Retraite Backdam, who was reportedly present at the scene, was arrested and placed in police custody.

CCTV cameras in the area are expected to be reviewed as investigators continue their probe.
