Nov 2, 2026 | 1 min read

A 33-year-old barber was shot in his left foot during an armed robbery at his barbershop at the corner of Callender Street and Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, Georgetown, on Friday night.

The robbery reportedly occurred around 20:55 hrs and was carried out by two masked men dressed in dark clothing. The suspects were reportedly on a black XR motorcycle.

According to Police Headquarters, the victim, who resides at Prospect, East Bank Demerara, was seated inside his barbershop with two other persons when the suspects arrived.

The pillion rider reportedly dismounted, entered the shop and pointed a handgun at the barber, demanding that he hand over his valuables.

The victim complied, handing over a gold chain and a gold and diamond ring. However, as the suspect was leaving, he allegedly discharged a round in the victim’s direction, striking him in the left foot.

The suspect then reportedly exited the barbershop, rejoined his accomplice on the motorcycle, and both men escaped in an unknown direction.

The injured barber was assisted by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is receiving medical attention. His condition is listed as stable.

Police ranks subsequently visited the scene, where a .380 spent shell was recovered.
